I really enjoy the book so far. As a beginner programmer I feel this book covers all areas of learning except extra programming problems per chapter. I think even having an external source, like a website (an extension on this site), would be good enough. It can be separated by chapters to focus on the concepts you learned in that chapter.

I can agree with you there. What I've taken to doing is creating a new project as kind of a testbed for messing around with things on my own. Since I just wrapped up chapter six, I created a "Player" and "Enemy" subclass under a base "Character" class to practice inheritance, and made a lot of the variables and methods private, working on encapsulating the classes a bit more fully. Should give me a bit of a head start on the second lab, conceptually.
