Here is a quote from page 17 of the book, which only adds to my suspicion:

Prior to python I have studied MS Visual C# for about two years and I fell in love with C#, it is genuinely a masterpiece of human intellect, nevertheless the people choose to entertain themselves on some practical jokes, on a far side C/C++ users can be added to the numbers of those entertainers as well (Of course, C family of languages can't be compared to Python but they are a thing of past).
Anyway, I do sincerely congratulate Mr. van Rossum for his intellectual creation - yes making jokes requires intelligence too - and, I am most certainly convinced that he could had never dreamt of it being such a success.
