Chapter 1: Getting Negative Contactid In Program

I've just finished the first program (Objectville Paper Company Contact List), but I get a weird error: When I add a contact in the program, it gets ContactID -1, then the next one gets -2 etc. When I add contacts in Visual Studio, they increment as they should. Anyone know what's wrong?
