Which Mac As Source

I have a Musical Fidelity DAC connected to an Onkyo receiver to DefTech Mythos STS.
My current active computers are approx. 4 yrs old ( both Intel Macs). I do not wish to swap them in and out of an audio system.
Sitting in storage is a 2004 G4 Dual Mirrored Door Desktop. Is there any reason not to use the G4 as far as I understand I would be sending audio from HDD to USB port.
Please let me know if I have missed something here.

I don't see why you shouldn't. I am sure it would work out just fine.
