As a professional singer-songwriter, I've been using my phone to record 'memo' versions of my songs after my minidisc recorder bit the dust. The quality was so awful that I thought it was about time that I got myself a portable recording device that was up to the task of recording demos and uploading them to share with musicians/producers etc. Perhaps I rushed in, but all the advice I got was that the new Zoom H4 with phantom power (so I could use my nice vocal mic), 4-track capability (for overdubbing) and 'fantastic' built-in mics was just what I needed - and more.
