Hf Wordpress - A Waste Of Time And Money. I Give Up.

A friend of mine suggested this course.
I have many O'Reilly books (Programmin PHP, CSS CookBook. Learning UNIX for Mac Os X, iPhone Forensics, Managing & Using SQL, XML Pocket Reference, DRUPAL, HTML & CSS The Good Parts, HTML The Definitive Guide) and I found them all very good.
So I enrolled.
The HF WordPress Guide is not a book, is a preliminary, unfinished, buggy sketch of what could be a book once rewritten. Lots of childish pictures, lots of errors, lots of omissions.
I spent hours trying to figure out what to do, and many other people too -- just consult the forum. Now I GIVE UP.
No, I do not want my money back: I would like to get back all the hours I wasted on this course -- but I cannot get those back.
Sorry, folks. Never again! G. Vittorio Frigo

I have to agree with you, Vittorio. O'Reilly has always seemed to bring out quality titles. However, it seems that the Head First Wordpress Guide has not found much favor with a lot of the readers of the guide.
Many people have mentioned exactly what you have pointed out:an incomplete book with no cohesive structure to the lessons and chapters. Some people also found it to that it did not seem very well written for the beginner user.
I would assume that the real selling point was the price.
I hope O'Reilly takes heed to the point the readers have mentioned and re-look at this book.
Thanks,
Bojan

I would have to agree with bjnplc4645. I have seen this book get a lot of flack from a lot of people. I was looking into this book but after reading some of the reviews on Amazon, I did not get a very good impression of it.
It seems everyone has the view of the book being very disorganized and not very methodically laid out.
I hope the disaster of this book will not impact on the reputation of O'Reilly as I believe that they have had some very good titles published.
Thank you,
Dusan

Hi
You can also use HTA as it gives the developer the features of HTML together with the advantages of scripting languages. They are popular with Microsoft system administrators who use them for system administration tasks, such as user-forms and pre-written network queries, since, for example, VBScript and JScript can access the Windows Task Manager.
Thanks

Hi there,
I completely agree with VittorioFrigo as the HTA is just a waste of time and money. I gave up a few months ago and have not looked back sense.
Best,
Trafn

I was quite close to getting HF Wordpress, looks like I'll have to carry on searching for something suitable.

I started looking into wordpress about three month ago. The best way to start is to follow tutorials online to get familiar with WP documentation and then download plugins and debug the code to understand the hooks, function calls etc.
I am using WP at work place as it worked out of the box, see live site here (http://insurancehotline.com ). However for my personal website (http://icandrive.ca) I am mixing up mvc, wordpress plugin & term(for tags and categories) functionality.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

So, if this one is no good what works? What would be a good piece of material to learn advanced Wordpress? I am pretty good with the basics but would be interested to learn more.
Any ideas?
