I've never used PHP so that sounds great. All I have is a laptop and I would like to get everything to work.

Tried running examples; unsuccessful due to similar problems as described by others, and due to my lack of knowledge of PHP and how to get it to run.

thanks,
bobr

You can install "EasyPHP" and put your files at "/EasyPHP/home" path

I'm going to regret this because it's probably plainly obvious, but how do I respond to a poll? I can't find any yes/no/don't know buttons!

Thx.

I looked for the poll buttons too. Then I noticed it's been there since May. My conclusion: it's over. Besides, most of the responses seem to be from children playing with there scripts.

I've been looking at this forum and it appears to be that one needs either a java applett that looks like a server or an actual server with php enabled to make the examples work. A possible 3rd solution would be subscribing to a host that has the required items (php, etc) set up. Then you could upload the pages to your space and get on with it.

I've been considering this last since there are some really economical hosting solutions available. I just wish the author had made the requirments clear, though I probably would have bought the book anyway.

Go to:
http://www.ricocheting.com/server/
Will walk you through Apache server set up, php, perl, and mysql.
It is excellent and free.

Installer can be download at XAMPP. I have only tried the window version.

On Mac php is preinstalled but not the latest version. I use the installation package prepared by Marc Liyanage as I prefer his package settings.

As for Linux, I assume installing php is piece of cake for linux users. smile.gif

Hi all-

Well, it seems pretty clear that everyone is interested in this. I've got a book I'm about 50% done with -- Head First OOA&D -- but I'm definitely adding this to the list of things we'd like to see.
We've been talking about materials like this anyway -- shorter, 10 page type documents done in Head First style -- and trying to make them available online (some free, some at nominal cost) to support the books. This will almost certainly be the first one.
And if we run across someone with some Head First chops sooner than I'm done with my book, we'll try and get this up even sooner! So you're being heard, and hopefully we'll meet this need before year's end, worst case.

Thanks
Brett

Looks as if I'm too late to respond with my "Yes" to this - so please do it anyway.

Like some of the others on here - I don't know enough about PHP to set it up myself - but the examples work when uploaded to my host provider.

Thanks
