Gudelines For Creating Software From Uml Diagrams

Hi there:

I'm looking for a resource (book, blog, etc.) written for developers who want to write code when all they have in front are UML Diagrams.

There are automatic tools, but what if I want to know the best practices for coding dependencies, n-ary associations, etc. I know that there are multiple ways to do that, but there must be some guidelines that lead you to write quality code.

Thank you in advance,

Still In Chapter 1... General Vs Bugs?

Hi everyone,

I'm still in chapter one, and getting very frustrated!! I didn't expect to be spending nearly 12 hours just to get this program to build and deploy...!

So my first issue was that I was getting the error about the SQL version used was not the latest and to upgrade, but it never said how. Eventually I uninstalled VSE 2012 entirely (it never properly installed in the first place, anyway), then had to reinstall the 4.0 .NET framework.

It STILL would not work, so I simply created a new project, breezed through all the steps and it didn't throw any SQL version errors. It works properly when I debug. However, if I try to publish it, I get this:

Error	1	Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1	1	Contacts_2

My biggest concern is that last error there, looking for a setup.bin in my project folder? Does anyone have any idea what that is about? I've Googled until my brain hurts but, I'm a beginner... and I have scoured my app.config trees for the relevant lines of code and can't seem to find them. Has anyone encountered this, and is there a solution?

Thank you,

What Design Pattern To Use In This Example

I am trying to design a business model for taking payments online. There are different methods for accepting payments – credit, debit, c,d,e, f etc (This list will keep on increasing).

Depending on the payment amount and payment type(credit, debit, c,d,e, f) and the product they selected, the application may charge a fee to the customer. The business may also charge some extra fee (agent fee) to that payment depending on the product they selected. For some products the business may charge extra fee if the payment is through the customer support. But there are some products for which we don’t charge this fee.

In future we may also give rebates or coupons for the fee reduction.

I am trying to see which design pattern fits here. I think I should use a combination of strategy pattern and decorator pattern – But I would like to get some inputs.

Some Mistakes In The Answers Of The Pmp Free Exam

Hello,

I have just taken the free exam on this site and I believe that there is some mistakes in the answers.
What do you think ?

Question number: 28 (ref: q0125)

Which of the following is NOT an input of the Administer Procurements process?
You answered: D.
A Work Performance Information
B Procurement Management Plan (Exam Answer)
C Contract
D Procurement Documents (My Answer)

Performance Domain: Monitoring & Controlling process
Task: Verify and Manage Changes to the Project
Administer Procurements is the Monitoring & Controlling process for Procurement Management. It's when you run into a change that has to be made to a specific contract. You use work performance information to determine how the contract is going, and the contract and procurement documents to see exactly what everyone's on the hook for. But you don't actually see the Procurement Management Plan as an input to administer procurements.

=> According to PMBOK Procurement Management plan is an input to Administer Procurement and Procurement Documents are not

Question number: 50 (ref: q0177)

Which of the following is NOT an output of Monitor & Control Project Work?
You answered: B.
A Project management plan updates (Exam Answer)
B Change request status updates (My Answer)
C Change requests
D Project document updates

Performance Domain: Professional & Social Responsibility
Task: Promote Interaction Among Stakeholders
This question is basically asking you the difference between Change Requests and Change Request Status Updates. Change Request Status Updates are outputs from Perform Integrated Change Control, not Monitor & Control Project Work.
You can think of Change Requests as what you get when someone finds a problem and needs to make a change. Once you've figured out whether or not to do that change (in Perform Integrated Change Control), you give the person an update on its status.

=> They're confusing M&C project work and Performa Integrated Change control

Question number: 62 (ref: q0146)

You have been hired by a contractor, who wants you to manage a construction project for one of their clients. The project team has been working for two months, and is 35% done with the job. Two of your team members come to you with a conflict about how to handle the ongoing maintenance for a piece of equipment. You know that they can safely ignore the problem for a while, and you’re concerned that if your project falls behind schedule before next week’s stakeholder meeting, it will cause problems in the future. You tell the two team members that the problem really isn’t as bad as they think it is, and if they take a few days to cool off about it you’ll help them with a solution. This approach to conflict resolution is known as:
You answered: A.
A Withdrawal (My answer)
B Compromise
C Smoothing (Exam answer)
D Forcing

Performance Domain: Planning process
Task: Identify Project Team and Define Roles and Responsibilities
Smoothing is minimizing the problem, and it can help cool people off while you figure out how to solve it. But it's only a temporary fix, and does not really address the root cause of the conflict.

=> Withdrawal is about retreating or delaying the decision
In Smoothing/Accomodating you emphasize the area of agreements instead of difference
I believe this is more withdrawal than smoothing

Question number: 75 (ref: q0142)

You are a project manager on a large military contract that involves seven subcontractors and a total of 1,253 team members, 752 stakeholders and sponsors, and 14 project managers (including you). You need to get a handle on the communications channels, because otherwise your project will devolve into chaos. How many potential channels of communication are there on this project?
You answered: D.
A 2019
B 91
C 2,037,171 (Exam answer)
D No way to determine (My answer since the exact number is not among the options)

Performance Domain: Planning process
Task: Develop Change Management Plan
Even though the numbers are large, this is a simple application of the channels of communication formula: # lines = n x (n - 1) ÷ 2. There are a total of 1,253 + 752 + 14 = 2,019 people. So the number of channels is 2019 x 2018 ÷ 2 = 2,037,171. That's a pretty staggering number, but it's realistic for a large project—and it's why Communications Management is such an important part of a project manager's toolbox.

=> You forget the seven subcontractors in your calculation (or did you suppose that it's included in the team members ?)
