Great webcast guys!

I'm wondering if there are any known plans by Apple to limit the ways that external accessories can be used?

Examples of app + hardware that would mean not paying AT&T for phone, navigation etc?

Thanks,

Well... I'm assuming you've watched the video where they announced the 3.0 firmware, and yes, they have a program...

Here's a link that might answer your question...

Thanks for your reply robotarmy. My apologies for responding so late. A bit pre-occupied by seeking a new career.

Most of that reference seems to refer to the need to embed a DRM enforcement chip. I suppose that will be at my expense in terms of purchasing, implications for the additional PCB area and manufacturing costs. I wonder how I'm supposed to do board level testing and field returns ...

I have not enrolled as a member of the official "Made for iPhone" development yet as I'm trying to weigh the pros/cons.

It still isn't clear to me if Apple won't deny apps under 2 different scenarios. (1) Apps that use accessories coming from a non participant in the Made for iPhone program. And (2), apps that access accessories coming from a Made for iPhone authorized developer but that might enable competition to the carrier's revenue stream (perhaps a dumb example, but an external cell phone accessory for an alternate carrier).

I have not installed SDK 3.0 so I have not read through the licensing agreement yet; it may be buried in that language.

Cheers,
