hi,
I have bought the book but only started to read it. smile.gif

1) It looks good but I do not want to download each example code separately then recreate the multilevel directory structure. Please zip up the content of the examples / code so there will be a single download.

2) In the book on page Preface xiv the given url is incorrect. "the URL, http://www.oreilly.com/9780596515829 is either incorrect or no longer available. "

3) I have had much trouble trying to add to the forum because OReilly's web site seem to demand cookies be put into many different web addresses. There is no warning that cookies are required and no listing of what web addresses must be opened up so these needles of data can be shoved into my computer. angry.gif

Thanks.

Exactly my opinion. i am really angry if i buy a book and i have to invest a few hours to download the sapmple code. thats time wasting and remembers to proprietary microsoft methods.
And nobody from o'reilly feels obliged to give a comment. angry.gif
nevertheless the book is very good but that makes it even worse. sad.gif

Hi,

Thanks for bringing that to our attention! I have created a zip file of the code directory to make it easier to download.

Thanks. biggrin.gif

Got the zip file but had some trouble on my Vista machine unzipping in Explorer. Then ran 7-zip and it unzipped without problem. There are 1023 files in 606 directories most of which are SVN files / directories for version control I assume but generally useless to the buyers of the book. There is also a useless Vim swap file (I use Vim a lot and have donated twice to the associated charity) which also has some version info in the svn. There does not seem to be any passwords in the swap file so I cannot play the role of BOFH (Bastard Operator From Hell) that is mentioned in the book. wink.gif

While the first hundred or so pages were generic introduction to Python the rest of the book has a wonderful style of a real system administrator describing how real problems are solved.

the url follows the same convention as other books' example downloads.

and you can grab all of the sample code with something like this:

CODE
wget -r -l3 -vv -R *.htm* http://examples.oreilly.com/9780596515829/code/

Thanks for letting us know about this broken URL! We've redirected it to the correct URL:

Note the code is also available here as a google code project, with a download zip. This allows us to expand some of the examples and spin them off into open source projects.
