Hi all, and thanks for visiting! This is the Very Official Forum For The Linux Networking Cookbook. You are welcome to post questions, share interesting hacks, and discuss Linux networking in general. Linux has a powerhouse networking stack, and truckloads of great networking utilities for all kinds of jobs. You can use Linux for nearly every networking chore there is; it's not necessary to spend all kinds of money on commercial networking products.
Tip of the day: iftop is a slick little utility that displays network activity in realtime in a top-like interface, with simple bar graphs to show bandwidth usage per host. Quick and easy to see who's connecting to your system. |

Quick and easy to see who's connecting to your system. Thanks Carla sudo apt-get install iftop fetched it under Ubuntu. sudo iftop to use it. Great program to see Linux FTP going into MacOS X in real-time! Andre |

Another cool little top-like utility is ntop, which has its own recipe in the Linux Networking Cookbook. It makes nice graphs of activity all over your network:
