What mastering software do you use on a Mac?

I just finished master a CD using WaveBurner. Although the design and functionality is quite nice (good fade controls and you can add your own AU plugins separately for each track), I ran into a few issues. First, it wouldn't work with my CD burner (later cleaning it with a CD cleaning disk solved this problem). Then, I wanted to burn to a .dmg file but I couldn't. You can't save your Master Mix as a set of audio files - it "only" burns to CD. Well, that made sense when CDs were the only medium but today, you might just as easily want to master some tracks for the web or another medium. So its too bad this software is limited to "only" burning to CDs. In the end, I burned to CD and then re-captured the audio files with iTunes (seems like a roundabout way!)

Looking at other options, the only cost-effective ones I found were Toast although now that they cut out JAM, its not as attractive for my needs. The only other mastering software I could really find was Sonic Solutions which is a somewhat "expensive solution". ProTools is also popular editing solution but would it really add functionality beyond what I have with MOTU's Digital Performer?

My inclination next time (unless I'm burning to CD) would be to master on a spare set of tracks in my sequencer, although my experience left me wondering what the rest of you use for finishing your tracks?

Toast now includes Jam functionality, so it's pretty cost-effective. It also lets you burn high-res audio DVDs and surround DVDs.

I mastered my last CD in BIAS Peak, and use Izotope Ozone for audio polishing.

The high-res features of Toast look pretty cool. For mastering though, I want the ability to make fine adjustments to individual tracks such as being able to balance levels, trim tracks, adjust spacing and have detailed control over fade curves, etc. In this regard, Toast seems somewhat limited as compared to WaveBurner which provides a more elegant solution and finer control. However, most of these operations could also be done inside of a sequencer as well. Thus, using a sequencer and Toast could be a viable mastering solution.

Toast does allow you to export AIFF audio files with AU effects and such, but it doesn't seem to allow you to burn an entire CD to a dmg file or a virtual disk partition which would be nice.

I wish the functionality of Toast and the features of WaveBurner were available in a single program. While both claim to be "Redbook standard", neither offers you important functions such as allowing you to set PQ codes nor offers a printed track log which JAM used to do and many mastering houses request.

In the democratization of mastering software, some important functionality was tossed out the window and new desirable feature sets have not been implemented.
